We’re talking about the Starbucks short cappuccino, and if you’re going to visit the Seattle-based coffee megacorporation you may want to give it a try.

In Europe and in barista competitions a cappuccino is defined as a 4-6 oz beverage but the smallest cappuccino on the menu at Starbucks is the 12 oz “Tall”. The 8oz “short” cappuccino from Starbucks is 8 oz but has the same amount of espresso as the tall, meaning that your coffee to milk ratio is much higher. The reason why smaller cappuccinos are regarded as superior is that most coffee experts maintain that it is impossible to properly froth the microfoam in larger quantities. Slate states that

a 20-ounce cappuccino is any oxymoron…I can confirm that [the short cappuccino] is a better drink than the buckets of warm milk—topped with a veneer of froth—that the coffee chain advertises on its menus.

Why is the short cappuccino not on the menu? Starbucks, like most retail coffeeshops, must maintain a fine line with pricing; if the price is too high you drive customers away, but if you price it too low the margins don’t allow sufficient profit. Keeping the short off the menus raises the bar for the minimum drink size to tall which keeps the jump from the smallest beverage to the largest only around a dollar in price difference.

So if you just want more coffee in your cappuccino or prefer to spend as little as possible at Starbucks there are a few reasons to give the short cappuccino a try. Photo by Marco Arment

When Facebook first started experimenting with its radical new (and I think, sensational) Timeline interface back in late September, we showed you an 8-step way to get a sneak preview. Now, it’s a whole lot easier: You can enable the timeline with one click, and then publish it for all to see with one more.

Follow this quick slide show, and before you know it you’ll have the Facebook Timeline enabled on your own account. The best part is, after you click the “Get Timeline” button, you have seven days until it automatically goes live, but until then, you’re the only one who will see it until you authorize it to be published. However, if you don’t want to wait seven days, you can publish it any time by clicking “Publish Now.”

SEE ALSO: Facebook Timeline: The Complete Guide

So for 7 days after you opt in, you can go through and edit whatever you’d like to hide from all your Facebook friends and followers, making sure your privacy is intact. Once you’ve pruned your Facebook Timeline to your comfort level, click the “Publish Now” button, and all your timeline goodness is immediately displayed for all to see.

Here’s a step-by-step guide for enabling Timeline now, and you’ll notice the process is a whole lot easier than it was before. If you’d rather have a simple list to show you how to do this, you can see that just below this slideshow:

Click “Publish Now.” You’re done.

Still Easy, Edit Before Anyone Sees It:

1. Be sure you’re logged into your Facebook account.

2. Go to the About Timeline page.

3. Click on “Get Timeline.”

4. Scroll down on your timeline and edit or remove any items you don’t want shown. Do that by holding your cursor over the upper right of the item you want to edit, and then make your choice on the drop-down list.

5. From that list you can change the date of the item, add a location, hide it from the timeline, delete the post altogether, or report it/mark it as spam.

6. If you’d like to “feature” any of the posts, click on the star icon to the left of that pencil icon, and that item will be expanded all the way across the page, made larger for all your friends to see.

7. Once you’re satisfied with all the edits you’ve made, either go back to the top of the Timeline and click “Publish Now,” or do nothing and it’ll be automatically published .

All applications are due by January 18, 2012.

Admission Requirements for the FSU Bachelor of Fine Arts – Animation and Digital Arts Program

Motion Picture Arts is a limited access program. Admission is highly selective. Each class comprises no more than 100 students. Separate applications must be made to The Florida State University Office of Admissions and to The College of Motion Picture Arts. Applications to both FSU and the College of Motion Picture Arts must be completed by January 18, 2012.

An applicant seeking to enter the College of Motion Picture Arts must meet the grade point average and test score requirements described by the University’s Office of Admissions. To learn more, visit http://admissions.fsu.edu/freshman/admissions/requirements.cfm.

The College of Motion Picture Arts will accept on-line applications for consideration of admission for Fall 2012 from August 1, 2011 through January 18, 2012.

The application package for the FSU BFA in Animation and Digital Arts Program consists of the following items. If any of these items are not received by January 18, 2012, your application will be incomplete and will not be reviewed by the Admissions Committee:

The Freshman or Transfer on-line application

A résumé encompassing any/all of the following: education, employment, extra-curricular activities, creative endeavors, sports, hobbies, travel, and service work

Three letters of recommendation (Please request these well ahead of the deadline so that your references have adequate time to prepare their letters. All letters must be received by January 18, 2012 for transfer students.)

Unofficial copies of high school and college transcripts

A statement of purpose: a 500 to 1,000 word essay that describes your creative influences, personal objectives, and future career goals – in short, your motivation for pursuing a career in digital media.

FSU BFA applicants may not submit portfolio items as part of the application.

Admission into the film major as a transfer student requires that no less than 30 hours of FSU’s liberal studies requirements be completed at FSU or through transferable credit from another institution prior to Fall admission into the College of Motion Picture Arts. A student may apply as a transfer to the College of Motion Picture Arts during the fall semester of his/her freshman or sophomore year in college but not during the junior or senior years in college.

Transfer students do not need to submit a separate application to DDI; enrollment in the DDI Animation & Digital Arts Program is automatic for all BFA students. No transfers of credits can be made toward the completion of the DDI diploma; all credits for the program must be earned at DDI.

Freshman and transfer applicants who are being considered for admission into the program will be invited for mandatory interviews with the Motion Picture Arts Admissions Committee. Those selected to interview for Fall 2012 admission will be notified as far in advance as possible, but not less than 10 days prior to the interview session. We anticipate that interviews will take place during February and March 2012; specific dates have not yet been determined.

Please contact FSU toll free at (888) 644-7728 if you have any questions regarding the FSU Motion Picture Arts application process.

AppleInsider recent published an interesting article that doesn’t bode well for Mac Pro fans. Supposedly, diminishing sales of the Mac Pro have led to considerable discussions at Apple over whether or not it will be profitable to continue the line further.

Though there will always be users who need more processing muscle than your average Mac owner, iMacs have become such powerful machines that many users are more than happy forgoing the Mac Pro’s high price tag when shopping for a workstation. It’s not a giant leap of logic to see the Mac Pro today as the Xserve of yesterday. The question is, will it reach a similar fate?
